Bundling services has been all the rage for several years. Getting telephone, TV, and Internet access together on one bill has been pushed by cable companies for years with Verizon and AT&T getting involved more recently as they have added TV service to more areas. The newest thing is to add cell phone service to the bundle. This is a natural for Verizon and AT&T, the 2 biggest cell phone carriers, but other phone and cable companies need to partner with someone to offer customers a quad-play package. Qwest had been partnering with Sprint, but has decided to switch to Verizon Wireless, in a nod to Verizon’s larger, more popular network. While this isn’t really all that interesting, one thing Qwest mentioned is; Unified voice mail between your home and your cell phone. This would be hugely attractive to many people. Imagine your cell phone beeping when you got a message on your home line or being able to check a single mailbox from home. If Qwest and Verizon can pull this off it would be a major coup in offering something the cable companies couldn’t match.
