Verizon stops analog TV signals early.

tv%20old.jpgAnalog TV will die in about 10 months.  Verizon has decided to pull the plug on analog transmissions a little early.   Starting April 21st in New York and quickly spreading to the rest of Verizon FiOS’ service foot print, subscribers will need a set top box to get any FiOS programming.  Up till now, Verizon has transmitted a small group of channels, including all the local broadcast networks, simultaneous in analog and digital format.  If you have a traditional analog TV, you would get basic TV channels without the need for a set top box.  Verizon is getting rid of the analog transmission to free up bandwidth for more high definition channels.  Verizon will provide its customers with free set top boxes so customers can still use their analog TVs.   In fact, with the free set top box, you can now get all the channels you subscribe to, rather then just the small analog subset.
