In the battle for customers cable companies and telephone companies have been waging war for years. First cable companies offered phone service and now traditional phone companies have moved into offering TV service. Triple-play packages of phone, Internet, and TV have become the norm for many households.
There has been a quiet push for expand the triple play by adding cellular service. Three of the largest cable companies, Comcast, Time Warner, and Cox Communications have tried partnering with Sprint to offer cell phone service, but this week that partnership fell apart. The cable companies complained that there was too much complexity in wireless offerings and there wasn't a clear value add for their customers.
That leaves Verizon and AT&T as the only options for customers searching for a quad play package.
