Comcast has done an about face in its effort to block or slow certain types of content on its network. After complaints by customers, waves of bad publicity, and public hearings by the FCC, Comcast has decided to migrate to a “protocol agnostic” standard that will not interfere with any particular type of Internet traffic. Comcast had been blocking or at least slowing peer to peer file sharing. Comcast also announced that it was working with BitTorrent Inc., a leading Internet content distribution company, to develop technologies to easy network traffic in the delivery of high bandwidth intensive content. Verizon has previously announced its intent to improve the efficiency of peer to peer file transfers.
