The only caveat to selecting a phone number relates to enhanced 911 emergency services.  During the registration process, you have to select a physical address that will be transmitted to 911 operators if you call 911 from your MagicJack.  The physical address you use and the area code you choose don’t have to be in the same area, but if you move your take your MagicJack to another location and call 911, the operators will only see the address you entered during registration, not the actual address when you might be using the MagicJack.   Normally, this is a big flaw for portable VoIP applications.
