Video on Demand also underwent a facelift. FiOS has added movie posters to spruce up the normally text only list of available titles. It’s very nice looking; however, this comes at a small cost. It now takes several seconds longer for the Video on Demand screen to come up compared to before the IMG upgrade. There is also a clumsy mix of having to press “ok” and using the arrow keys to navigate. It’s a sort of a strange mix of lists and folders.
The search feature is a bit better. They have replaced the original “keyboard” with a smaller, more compact version that is easier to navigate. As you “type” matching program titles appear to the right of the keyboard and let you select your show with just a few clicks. Now the search feature includes recorded shows, indicated with a folder icon, which is nice if you have a lot of programs recorded.
Overall, I give the IMG a B-. If it weren’t for the improvements to the DVR, it would have been a D. Hopefully, Verizon will continue to tweak the IMG in the coming months.
