FiOS has just upgraded its programming guide. The new guide, dubbed Interactive Media Guide IMG, is being pushed to FiOS customers on a state by state basis. Last week they upgraded my box.
The new guide is an improvement in some areas and a downgrade in others. The most important feature, the guide itself, is harder to use now then before. The have implements a sort of magnifying glass effect where as the program you have highlighted shows up larger in the middle of the screen with information about the show. That’s ok, but it makes reading the rest of the guide much more difficult. They have also color coded the guide based on program type, red for sports, green for movies, blue for drama, etc, but the colors don’t really stand out very well.
The biggest improvement is in the DVR functionality. There used to be a noticeable delay when rewinding or skipping forward. Now it’s instant. You can also select 10, 30, or 60 seconds for both replay and skip ahead. The DVR now shows you how much recording space you have left and how many hours of standard and HD programming you have saved.
