Skype continues to lead the way to bringing free VoIP calling off of the computer. A few weeks ago I reviewed a Panasonic WiFi phone that lets you make Skype calls untethered from your PC. Now Sony has gotten into the WiFi Skype fray,
Sony, has announced that it is bringing the well-known Skype VoIP service to its popular PlayStation Portable gaming console in the near future.
Full details of the new service will be unveiled at the Consumer Electronic Show in Law Vegas next week, according to Sony, which said that users will be able to “call friends, talk trash to fellow gamers, and catch up with acquaintances via Skype for PSP.”
The Sony PSP uses a standard 802.11 WiFi connection to access the Internet.Skype, which is famous for offering free telephone calls to other Skype users and low cost calls to land lines over the internet, has grown to become a major international phenomenon in recent years, with 245 million people now registered to use the service on their PCs.
Now maybe you can get your boss to spring for a PSP for you next business trip.
