
The much ballyhooed WiMax technology will be coming out as soon as this April. Sprint announced at this weeks Consumer Electronics Show that they will be the first company to roll out WiMax. Sprint plans to release WiMax in
WiMax, the Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access, is a new technology aimed at providing wireless data over long distances. WiMax has the potenial to act as a wireless alternative to cable and DSL without the limits or costs of wires. There is even more potenial for WiMax to provide true high speed internet access while traveling. WiMax acts more like WiFi then cellular internet access. Sprint will be selling a laptop data card and a desktop “modem”.
Sprint’s pricing has yet to be released, but Sprint CTO Barry West said "People will be excited about our rates. They won't be ecstatic about them because we're not going to give it away."
