
The survey, entitled “Video Trends in TV and Online Video,” found that over half of adult internet users had watched television on a device other than their TV set. Younger people, aged 18-to-24, are leading the shift in viewing habits, with some 66% of them watching video on non-traditional devices.
Made-for-TV programming is now the most popular type of online content, and is watched by some 65% of online video users. Around 39% of users, meanwhile, watched user-generated video content on websites such as youtube.com.
Computers are the most common alternative to a standard television with over 1/3 of consumers watching TV on a PC. Many of these users say they watch at least four hours of online TV a week.
I’ve tried watching a few shows on my laptop. While the screen size is very small, the picture quality is very good, though the resolution is not high definition. Some shows that I watch, like Mythbusters, Lost, and Life, now offer extra scenes, mini-webisodes, and other supplementary content online that is never shown on tv.
