TV shows moving off of the small screen and onto even smaller screens
American consumers are growing increasingly comfortable with the idea of viewing tv programming on computers and mobile phones instead of a standard TV set, according to new research by ChoiceStream.

The survey, entitled “Video Trends in TV and Online Video,” found that over half of adult internet users had watched television on a device other than their TV set. Younger people, aged 18-to-24, are leading the shift in viewing habits, with some 66% of them watching video on non-traditional devices.

Made-for-TV programming is now the most popular type of online content, and is watched by some 65% of online video users. Around 39% of users, meanwhile, watched user-generated video content on websites such as youtube.com.

Computers are the most common alternative to a standard television with over 1/3 of consumers watching TV on a PC. Many of these users say they watch at least four hours of online TV a week.

I’ve tried watching a few shows on my laptop.  While the screen size is very small, the picture quality is very good, though the resolution is not high definition.  Some shows that I watch, like Mythbusters, Lost, and Life, now offer extra scenes, mini-webisodes, and other supplementary content online that is never shown on tv.
