The enhanced video runs at 30 frames per second, double the frame rate of Skype's usual 15fp,s and video resolutions is doubled as well. The new resolution will be at 640x480 rather than old 320x240.
The improvements come as the result of collaboration between the technical teams of Skype and the peripherals manufacturer Logitech. The new enhancements will only work with the new upcoming version of Skype 3.6 and you must buy one of Logitech's new model cameras. QuickCam Pro 9000, QuickCam Pro for Notebooks and QuickCam Orbit AF cameras all support the new standard. All of these cameras use high quality Carl Zeiss lenses and sport high-speed auto-focus capabilities.
This will really make a big difference to the casual Skype video conferencing user. I use an older Quickcam and the video is pretty choppy even in a very small window.
