Toshiba has released a major upgrade to its Strata CIX-40 digital telephone phones. The CIX-40 is designed for small businesses with up to 16 digital telephones. Release 2.0 expands the CIX-40’s capacity by adding more analog outside line support. The original CIX-40 came with 3 outside lines out of the box and could be expanded to 6 outside lines. That made the CIX-40 much smaller then many other telephone systems on the market. Many small business telephone systems come with 4 lines out of the box and could expand to 8 or even 12 outside lines. Toshiba Strata CIX-40 release 2.0 will now come with 4 outside lines standard and can be expanded to 11 outside lines.
The Toshiba Strata CIX-40 also supports VoIP telephones. This is something that many small telephone systems can not support. The CIX-40 can support up to 24 VoIP phones in addition to 16 standard TDM digital telephones. Alternatively, the CIX-40 can network with other Toshiba systems using Toshiba’s proprietary Strata-Net protocol.
Using either VoIP stations or linking multiple systems together will reduce the systems outside line capacity from 11 to 7. While VoIP support is a huge feature for such a small system, limiting the number of outside lines to only 7 limits the systems appeal to all but the smallest businesses that need VoIP support.
