Making a Skpye call using the Panasonic KX-WP1050 is like making a cell phone call. There is no dial tone. You enter in the number or Skype user name and press send. If you call a land line or a cell phone using Skypeout there is a short series of beeps before your call goes through. The phone is checking your Skype account to see if you have an unlimited plan or enough prepaid minutes to make the call. The delay is a bit annoying but it's not terrible. Calling another Skype phone requires that you enter the Skype user name the way you would on a cell phone with the * key toggling between alpha and numeric characters. Once your call is connected the phone acts like a regular line. Sound quality on our test calls was almost indistinguishable from a regular land line call. Walking around was no different then with any other 2.4 Ghz cordless phone. However, unlike a regular 2.4 Ghz cordless phone, the Panasonic KX-WP1050 runs over your WiFi network and not in competition with the same frequencies.
