Once you plug in the router and turn on the phone they instantly marry up.  You are then prompted to enter your Skype user ID or create a new one.  I tried logging onto Skype to create a user ID, but you can’t unless you download their software.  I didn’t want to install anything on my laptop, so I tried setting up a new Skype account using the Panasonic KX-WP1050 handset.  It took me 3 tries to find an avaialble user ID.  You enter in letters just like on a cell phone.  Once I found an available user ID everything went smoothly. 

The Panasonic KX-WP1050 comes with 60 free Skypeout minutes.  Skypeout is Skype’s service that lets you make calls to landlines or cell phones.  Calls to other Skype users are always free.  You do need a PC to log onto the Skype website to apply the coupon code to your account, but you don’t have to install the Skype software.
