The KX-WP1050 comes with a Skype WiFi handset and a special wireless router. The router can be used behind an existing router (AP Bridge mode) or by iteself, however on it’s own it lacks several important features. There is no built in firewall, it only supports 5 DHCP clients, and there is only 1 wired ethernet port. It does have a DMZ feature, WEP encyption, MAC filtering, UPnP, IP Packet filtering, and port forwarding (though limited to 10 ports).
Otherwise, the router is an interesting item. First off, just like the phone, it’s absolutely tiny. It’s designed for easy travel. In fact the KX-WP1050 comes in a nice executive travel case that holds the phone, router, cables, and charges. The router is only 150 grams and approximately 1”x6”x2”. It has 4 status LED’s and a very useful handset locator button. It also has a USB port to charge the phone with the included USB to mini-USB cable.
More Tomorrow.
