A discussion about the Telecommunication Industry

One of the most important parts of the US voice and data networks is the inter-compatibility of companies and technologies.  Can you image if Verizon wouldn’t connect calls to Quest customers?  The same goes for our cell phone network.  What would happen if AT&T Wireless customers couldn’t call Sprint customer.  What if one carrier provided lower service quality or took longer to connect calls another carrier?

The same goes for Internet access.  Regardless of who you sign up with, whether it’s dial up or broadband, you get the same internet.  What would happen if Cablevision refused to let customers go to Google or if AOL make Yahoo searches slower then Ask.com?

There have been rumors over the years that some cable companies would occasionally sabotage access to third party VoIP carriers such as Vonage in order to entice people to use their in house VoIP service.
