This post doesn’t really have anything to do with Telecom, but it has to do with the web, blogs, and Google. It seems for the past few days Google has been updating their Page Rank for every website in its directory, which is basically every website period. Page Rank is a key indicator of how popular a website is and affects site traffic, search engine results, and advertising rates. A low page rank can even put a website out of business if it depends on advertising to generate revenue.
Blogs, like this site, took the brunt of Google’s update. Many blogs saw their Page Rank drop 2 or even 3 points. Page Rank goes from 0 to 10, higher being better. This site’s page rank is now 2. It was 6 before the name change from telcomswitchboard to telecomswitchboard, though the new name had no Page Rank at all.
Google appears to be penalizing sites, especially bog networks, for excessive cross linking or for selling links. My personal website on telephone systems lost a Page Rank point as well.
