Now there is proof that Net Neutrality is at serious risk. The Associated Press has broken news that Comcast is actively preventing or slowing certain traffic from going over its network. Comcast is “falsifying network traffic” to prevent or slow customer’s access to peer to peer file sharing networks.
Peer-to-peer applications account for between 50 percent and 90 percent of overall Internet traffic, according to a survey this year by ipoque GmbH, a German vendor of traffic-management equipment
Comcast is essentially “forging” Internet traffic and lying to your computer to make using peer to peer networks more difficult. Comcast’s motives are unclear, but they are probably trying to reduce traffic due to congestion on its network. It’s not uncommon for phone companies that offer unlimited calling or Internet Providers that offer unlimited access to send customers letters when they overuse their “unlimited” service. Companies often say that a few mega-users can slow down the network or raise prices for everyone. Now Comcast is going even further and is surreptitiously limiting access to parts of the Internet.
I would urge all Comcast customers to call or write and demand that Comcast stop interfering with your net usage or speak even more loudly with your wallet and take your business elsewhere.
